Rain, wood, hearts

When I walked out the door this morning to take the dogs down, everything was still soaked from the rain last night. The wooden steps were full of beautiful contrasting lines. As I walked down them I noticed the heart shaped notched in one of them. I couldn't resist snapping a pic for my wife. I originally intended this to be a wallpaper for her but it came out so well that I decided to make it available for prints. It's even available as a puzzle or mousepad.

I got to play around with the new Google phone at my local T-mobile store. I'm very impressed. Small(ish), solid feel, awesome little trackball. The touchscreen was easy to use, even with my fat fingers. I'm currently using a Dash, and I love my keyboard. I like the roomy, full qwerty on the G1 even better. The barcode scanner was a neat trick, not sure how usefuk it is. Something I was not aware of, the G1 comes equipt for VOiP, and for 10 bucks a month I can use wifi hotspots to make calls instead of using my minutes. Looks like it's time to pick up some extra work so I can drop $300 on it.

Having a wife who is 5 months pregnant, I'm used to the comparing-the-baby-to-food-for-size references. But I think this one kind of got away from the writer.

I used to love the Italian Herbs and Cheese bread. Now I'll be able to think about is eating my baby :(

Urban clothing stores, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Marc Ecko

I never actually thought I would use the Fashion, Style, Shopping category but here I am.

Tonight, the wifey decided it was time to look for some maternity pants. We wanted to go to Goodwill to keep it cheap, but they were closed. So we headed a few doors down to the illustrious Burlington Coat Factory.

Now, I don't know what the clothing selection is like at this fine retailer where you live but the Men's section at our store is mostly what could be easily describe as "urban". I've always found some of these styles interesting, and out of my boredom was born this blog entry. Enjoy.

I'm a tall guy, so finding shirts that fit me properly length-wise has always been difficult. Not matter how tall you are, six feet of shirt is considered a dress. Period. Any longer and this would have piled up on the floor beneath the rack.

This one says "Death to the Enemy". I'm not sure who "the enemy" is, but from the looks of the shirt it maybe non-goth straight people.

For so long, I've struggle with balancing jewelry and clothing. Now with this fine article I don't have to choose. At what point did a giant necklace made of sparkly beads and a pendant stitched onto a shirt become fashion? And who's the physics expert who decided that a necklace should hang that far off the shoulder?

I don't even know what to say here. I didn't realize that faux-military paraphanalia had become all the rage. You too can look like a foreign air force pilot.

This one had me torn. The geek in me was excited by the circuit board design. But the heterosexual male inside reminded me that I am neither a female mad scientist nor a flamingly gay super villian. I passed on this one.

What's happening here? A crown? The Decepticon logo?

And if you're going to dress like a sexually confused crimefighter, you need the right shoes to go along with your ensemble. Why not some Scarface sneakers? Seriously?

It wasn't all bad though. I found a few things I would buy.

Very cool shirt, with an awesome city scape at the bottom. They only had one, and it wasn't super fat guy size.



REVERSIBLE CUFF!!??!! Oh yes! Go from button down sleeves to french cuff, cuffed linked fabulousness.

And as the blog title indicates, I did end up buying something:


I walked around for 15 minutes with this shirt in hand before realizing that it was embroidered on the back.



In my book, Marc Ecko is a genius (with the exception of that "Getting Up" street tagging game, that was a mess).

The Apple iPhone!!

It's about time this came along. I really hoping this isn't some kind of prank. Apple's first (in what I'm sure will be a continuing line) cell phone.



I think I wanna cry just looking at it. No specs on the site (as far as I see) on what the units capacity is. I'm hoping for 500 bucks it's at least 30gb, if not 80.



All the specs are their. Apple fans drool all you want.

Strange Marketing Tactics

I know that a lot of people have picked up a few bits and pieces of html/css through myspace and other websites. But I doubt that the large majority of the general public knows how to host a .SWF and properly link it to their page. In fact, I bet many reading this stopped at ".SWF"



I visited NBC's page for "30 Rock", one of my favorite shows today. Right now they're doing some sort of viral marketing using prerecorded clips of Alex Baldwin to let people send phone calls to their friends promoting the show. The Samuel L. Jackson movie "Snakes on a Plane" use a similar marketing gimmick.



To further promote the calling/spamming ploy, they have premade Flash banners that you can post on your page and while play an audio clip when you roll over them. You can see one in action on my Myspace page. It wasn't until I actually tried to use the code included on the page that I realized that NBC isn't actually hosting the Flash files. Most people can cut and paste code. But how many average people have server space to rehost the files, along with enough knowledge to correctly direct an embed tag to the right file?



Not many that I know. I don't see this idea working out to well for NBC.

Bonus: After a little digging I found where the .SWF file is being hosted on NBC's site. Now I don't have to use my servers bandwidth to advertise for NBC. LOL Here's the address:

Well I haven't blogged in a week or so. So, I figured I'd resurface with a blog about something we all really, really need.



Yeah, thats exactly what you think it is. It's an Ipod dock. With a toilet paper holder. That goes in your bathroom.

In theory, this could be a kinda cool thing. Step into the bathroom, pop your Ipod into the dock, and relax with some tunage while you... ya know, do your business. I see a problem though. Do you really wanna fool around with your Ipod while sitting on the toilet? You gonna disinfect that thing when you're done? Gross.

Top 10 most dangerous toy of all time.

I gotta say those are some dangerous toys. Nothing to much on there from my day, other than the hair-eating Cabbage Patch Doll and the Sky Dancers. They could have included metal Tonka truck (I think it was Tonka) that I had when I was young. Thankfully my Dad had the foresight to put duct tape on the metal freshly-opened-soup-can-esque edges.



Bonus: They include a video clip of a commercial for one of the toys that uses the phrase "gay" and actually means "happy". That should put a date on it.



On a side note: A Google Image search for "Bag O' Glass" turns up nothing but pics of "bags o' marbles". There goes my SNL tie in. Can't seem to find that video on youTube either. What a shame.

Custom Search Engines in Firefox

Build Your Own Firefox Search Engine



I've stumbled across this O'Reilly hack a couple of times. The only time I can't seem to find it is when I'm looking for it. Well I finally found it again today and I decide to share it with you.



If you're a user of Firefox (and you should be!) then you're familiar with the search box in the upper right hand corner. The drop-down box has some useful search engines built in, and there's lots more that you can download from the Mozilla site. But what if the search engine you're looking for isn't on the list?



I ran into that problem with Google Images. Firefox has a built-in Google search extension, but nothing for directly searching the Images section. I use the Google Images search engine all the time to find new wallpapers, CD covers to embed in my MP3 collection, etc. With this hack, and just a few minutes, I had my very own Google Images search engine extension for Firefox. It even shows you how to track down the little icon that pops up in your URL bar and your Favorites list, and it adds it to your new search engine.

new pics, trip to the carter center. to tired for caps.

yeah, new pics. i tried to post a bulletin about them (three times). but it didn't work. if you live in georiga and you haven't been to the carter center, you need to go. there are some buildings up there, and i have no idea what goes on in there. but, the gardens and fountain that surrounds those mystery buildings are really great. here's a shot of the most beautiful thing there. isn't she gorgeous? all mine :)

Online digi-print prices dropping

Price war over online photos hits new low - Yahoo! News



I know some of these companies are great. But, for my money I trust Wolf/Ritz Camera. They're local, I can get my prints today, if there are any problems with color, etc. I can have it fixed right there. Plus, they actually train their people on color management.



/Not to mention I used to work there.
